CAMP FAQ'S
What specific activities are included in Camp Playa sessions?
Camp Playa activities will be based on a flexible schedule, adapting to environmental and weather conditions as needed. Activities will include sports (soccer, surfing), outdoor wildlife exploration (animal identification, fishing, crabbing), and field games (tag, capture the flag, world cup etc.), depending on location and availability of facilities at the time.
What should my child bring to camp?
Your child should bring a lunch, snack, water, sun protection, running/tennis shoes, and a soccer ball if you have one. If there are activities such as boogie boarding, fishing, and crabbing, equipment will be
provided but your own equipment is also welcome!
What will my child learn at Camp Playa?
You child will learn the following:
- Basic soccer skills of passing, dribbling, shooting, game sense and working as a team.
- How to read waves, and catch small shore break on surf/boogie boards.
- How to use a fishing rod/reel, cast nets, crab snares and hoop nets.
- How to find and harvest bait, catch and cook (if we are lucky)
- How to aim and shoot a bow accurately and safely.
- Identify local animal and plant species
- Geography of San Francisco through hiking trails.
- The importance of play and being outside with their friends!
My child is a beginner at soccer, can they attend Camp?
Of course, all are welcome, regardless of skill level or previous playing experience. We aim to provide an environment where everyone can have fun, so for those who want more or less competitive environments, we will adjust as needed. We will also have lots of alternative options for play.!
Who is the camp director or lead coach?
Sebastian Wangamez is the founder, director, and lead coach at Camp Playa. He has been coaching soccer for 4+ years and has played the sport at a competitive level for over a decade. His vision for Camp Playa is to combine his passion for soccer, wildlife, and the outdoors into a fun and educational camp!
Are there refunds?
We understand things happen and schedules change; our refund policy is as follows:
*Reschedule for a different week if there is space – no charge
*Cancel entirely - You will receive a refund, minus a $100 registration fee, as long as cancellations are made 2 weeks prior to the first day of camp. Any cancellations made after this time will unfortunately not be eligible for refund.
